Claw Tightening & Re-Tipping
Worn claws rebuilt before a stone is lost. The most common repair we see, and the cheapest to catch early.
Stone Resetting
Loose or shifting stones removed, the setting repaired, and the stone reset properly rather than glued back into place.
Stone Replacement
Missing or damaged diamonds and gemstones matched and replaced to suit the existing piece.
Chain & Clasp Repairs
Broken links, stretched chain and failed clasps repaired or replaced to hold properly again.
Bracelet Repairs
Worn hinges, catches and safety chains put right, including pieces that have taken a hard knock.

02 · Before It Becomes a Loss
Most lost stones gave warning first.
A claw that catches on clothing. A stone you can feel move under your fingernail. A band that has gone thin underneath, or a ring that suddenly sits differently on your hand. Stretched links, a clasp that no longer clicks shut, white gold turning warm as its rhodium wears away.
None of these are emergencies. All of them are cheaper and simpler to fix now than after a stone is gone — a diamond lost from a worn setting is rarely found. If your ring is worn daily, having it checked once a year is sensible.

Carried out at our bench in Cotton Tree. Many straightforward repairs are ready in about five business days; restoration work can take longer, and you are told the expected timeframe at assessment.

04 · Restoration
A repair fixes a fault. Restoration is slower.
An older piece that has been worn for fifty years is rarely one problem. Settings are worn low, engraving has softened, a shoulder has been repaired badly somewhere along the way, a stone is missing and the ones remaining sit unevenly. Restoration means working through all of it and returning the piece to something safe to wear — without sanding away the character that makes it worth keeping.
Original proportions are respected, structural areas rebuilt where they must be, missing stones replaced where appropriate, and polishing kept restrained. If the piece no longer suits you and you would rather it became something new, that is remodelling instead.

05 · Which One Do I Need?
Repair it, or remake it?
The difference is whether you want the same piece back, or a different one made from it. If you are unsure, bring it in and we will talk it through.
Repair or Restore
Choose this when you want to keep the same piece and put its condition right — resize a ring, repair a chain, rebuild worn claws, replace a missing stone, restore an heirloom, rhodium plate white gold.
Remodel
Choose this when you want the jewellery to become a different design — inherited rings drawn into one, old diamonds reset, an engagement ring redesigned, sentimental stones built into something you will wear.
06 · Repairs FAQ
The questions we get asked daily.
How much does a jewellery repair cost?
It depends entirely on the piece, which is why the assessment is free and comes before the quote. A claw re-tip and a full shank rebuild are different jobs on different metals with different stones involved. You will be given a cost before any work starts.
How long do jewellery repairs take?
Many straightforward repairs can be completed within approximately five business days. More complex restoration work takes longer, particularly if a stone has to be sourced or matched. We will advise the expected timeframe when your piece is assessed.
Can you resize my ring?
In most cases, yes. How far a ring can move depends on its design — a plain band has more room than a fully set eternity ring, where resizing may not be possible without reworking the setting. A jeweller will tell you what your ring allows.
Can you replace a missing diamond or gemstone?
Yes. A replacement is matched to the stones around it for size, cut and colour as closely as the piece requires. Where an exact match is not achievable, you will be shown the options before anything is set.
Can worn claws around a diamond be repaired?
Usually, and it is worth doing early. Claws are re-tipped or rebuilt with new metal and the stone reset securely. Once a claw has worn through completely there is less to build on, so the repair becomes larger.
How often should an engagement ring be checked?
Once a year is a reasonable habit for a ring worn daily, and sooner if it has taken a knock or a stone feels like it moves. An inspection takes minutes and is the cheapest insurance against losing a stone.
Can antique or inherited jewellery be restored?
Yes, and it is a large part of what comes across the bench. Older pieces are assessed on their own terms — the aim is safe and wearable, with the original character intact rather than polished out.
Do you repair jewellery you didn't make?
Of course. Most repairs we handle were bought elsewhere, including pieces from interstate and overseas. Where a piece was made in an unusual way, that is noted at assessment.
Can white gold jewellery be rhodium plated?
Yes. White gold is plated with rhodium and that finish wears with time, which is why a ring gradually looks warmer or slightly yellow. Replating restores the original colour and is often done alongside a polish or a service.
Do you provide valuations for insurance?
Yes. Written valuations for insurance, estate and resale purposes are prepared at our studio by a contracted NCJV-registered valuer who attends by arrangement, so valuations are booked rather than done while you wait.
